After we had to skip our feature update in October, it’s time again to inform you about new features in Swat.io. Today I’d like to introduce you to a feature we’ve been working on for a long time! Already in June the kick-off for this project took place and our developers worked hard on it in October and November: the new, improved calendar for social media content planning!
How does the beta phase work?
In the beginning of December we started the official beta test phase, so maybe you’ve already activated the new calendar in Swat.io. You can currently decide in your user settings (https://app.swat.io/settings) whether you want to use the old or new calendar in the beta version and switch between the two versions.
The test phase will run for at least a month before we upgrade really every Swat.io user to the new version. The beta test runs in three phases:
- At the moment every single user can switch back and forth between the two versions in his user settings by checking the checkbox: “Enable Calendar Preview” or not.
- We collect feedback from an internal test group and will then open the BETA phase for all existing Swat.io users.
- Your feedback will be collected by us and after the test phase we will say goodbye to the old calendar in Swat.io.
This 3-part process is currently planned until mid-January and the duration depends on the feedback we receive from you. But now to what has improved in the new social media content calendar:
Modern, clean design
When you first take a look at the new content planning calendar, you’ll immediately notice the modern, tidy design. We analyzed a lot of user feedback on the calendar, tested different screen designs and came to the conclusion that visually and functionally this is the next level in planning and publishing social media content with Swat.io.
Stacked Posts in the Content Calendar
One of the most noticeable changes are the stacked posts in the Content Calendar. All duplicated posts with exactly the same publishing time are displayed as a stack in the calendar. This takes up less space in the Content Calendar and gives you a better overview. It also improves subsequent workflows in the Content Calendar:
- Tagging of duplicated posts,
- Assign posts within your team,
- Approval of proposed posts,
- Rejecting proposed posts,
- Delete duplicate posts.
Monthly view in calendar
Apart from the fact that the new content calendar is lightning fast, you have the possibility to switch between two variants in the monthly and weekly view. Depending on which view makes more sense for your editorial planning, you can show or hide the weekends with two clicks. It is especially helpful that you always jump automatically to the current day when you call up the monthly view and no longer have to click on the “Today” button.
Duplicate Planned Posts
Another advantage of stacked posts is that they can be duplicated more quickly. By selecting a post, then mouse-over and clicking the copy icon you can select in the duplicate menu for which channels, on which day, at which time and with which post status you want to duplicate the post. By selecting the checkbox “Select all” you can duplicate a post for all your channels with just two clicks.
Note: If you have created too many duplicates of a post once, you can also use the multiple selections in the calendar overview to delete these posts with just a few clicks.
Lightning fast interface
Did I mention that the new Content Calendar has a lightning fast interface before? Our developers had to do some optimization under the hood, but these extra steps definitely pay off. When navigating through the posts and functions in the new content calendar, no additional page reloads are performed. This lightning-fast interface makes social media editorial planning even more fun!
You know the keyboard shortcuts since the feature update in April at the latest. This hasn’t changed in the new version of the content calendar. You can continue to use the keyboard combinations in the calendar, the ticket inbox and the ticket detail view as before. You can also use the arrow keys “<” or “>” to quickly switch between days, weeks or months.
Note: Don’t worry, you don’t have to know the shortcuts by heart. Just press “Shift + ?” on your keyboard and the following cheat sheet with the Swat.io shortcuts opens. You can close the shortcut overview with the “Esc” key.
Improved release process
The improved approval process in the Content Calendar allows you to approve, reject or completely delete posts from the editorial planning directly in the overview. Everything with just two clicks!
Post Hover Cards
Post Hover Cards appear when you move your mouse pointer over a scheduled or published post in the content calendar. Shortly afterward, the Post Hover Card will open, containing important statistics and – if your screen has at least 1200 pixels of window width – a full post preview. The preview includes image, text, time and status of publication. We also show you other Facebook statistics. Once a Facebook post has been published, the number of comments, reactions (Love, Like, Wow, Haha, Sad, Angry) and reach of your post will also appear.
Everything new (in the calendar) makes December
The current (beta) version of the Swat.io content calendar is the basis for even more exciting features, which we will present in the next weeks and months.
